The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken decisive action to combat the escalating menace of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North-West region. In a move that underscores its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security, the government has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, along with other military chiefs, to relocate to Sokoto State to spearhead operations aimed at eradicating these criminal elements.
This directive was announced by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, through an official statement. The recent incident involving bandits circulating videos of a Nigerian military armoured vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has heightened the urgency of the situation. The bandits, who later celebrated their perceived victory by recording and sharing the video, have become a symbol of the growing audacity of these criminal elements.
In response, the government has pledged to deploy all necessary assets to ensure that these bandits, particularly the notorious gang led by Bello Turji, are flushed out. The government highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s strong support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, emphasizing that the President is deeply invested in ensuring the security of all Nigerians.
