Federal Government Orders Military Chiefs to Lead Fight Against Banditry in North-West

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken decisive action to combat the escalating menace of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North-West region. In a move that underscores its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security, the government has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, along with other military chiefs, to relocate to Sokoto State to spearhead operations aimed at eradicating these criminal elements.

This directive was announced by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, through an official statement. The government’s decision is part of an intensified effort to address the growing concerns about the safety and well-being of citizens in the North-West, particularly in states such as Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi.

The Federal Government expressed deep concern over the activities of terrorists and bandits in the region, describing the situation as unacceptable. The recent incident involving bandits circulating videos of a Nigerian military armoured vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has heightened the urgency of the situation. The bandits, who later celebrated their perceived victory by recording and sharing the video, have become a symbol of the growing audacity of these criminal elements.

In response, the government has pledged to deploy all necessary assets to ensure that these bandits, particularly the notorious gang led by Bello Turji, are flushed out. The presence of the Minister of State for Defence and the military chiefs in the region is intended to provide direct oversight and leadership in the ongoing military operations.

The government highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s strong support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, emphasizing that the President is deeply invested in ensuring the security of all Nigerians. The directive to move military operations to the heart of the North-West is a clear indication of the administration’s resolve to tackle the persistent threat posed by banditry and terrorism in the region.

“The Federal Government is deeply concerned about the persistent threat posed by banditry and terrorism in the North-West. We are ready to deploy all necessary assets to ensure that these criminal elements are flushed out and peace is restored to our communities,” the statement read.

The government also reassured the people of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, as well as the entire North-West region, that the security forces will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to restore peace and security. The strategic move to relocate military leadership to the region is expected to bolster the effectiveness of operations and ensure that residents can once again move freely without fear of bandits or terrorists.

This intensified military campaign is part of a broader national security strategy aimed at protecting lives and properties, rebuilding trust in the government’s ability to safeguard its citizens, and fostering a climate of peace and stability across the country.

As the Federal Government ramps up its efforts to rid the North-West of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, the nation watches closely. The deployment of military chiefs to the region represents a significant escalation in the fight against these criminal elements. With strong leadership and the full support of President Tinubu, there is hope that the security situation in the North-West will soon improve, allowing the people to live in peace and security once more.
