The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an exciting new development for participants in its 3 Million Technical Training (3MTT) program. Starting this month, 50 laptops will be distributed every month to fellows of the program. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance digital literacy and technical skills among Nigerian youth, ultimately contributing to the nation’s growing digital economy.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, made this announcement recently. He highlighted that the distribution of these laptops will coincide with the monthly knowledge showcase events. During these events, fellows have the opportunity to present what they have learned and demonstrate how they are applying their new skills in practical settings.
In addition to the laptops, the 3MTT program will also provide 5 MTN routers each month. This will ensure that fellows have the necessary connectivity to fully engage in their online learning and digital projects.
The second cohort of the 3MTT program officially began in March. However, the active learning phase started in mid-May. Dr. Tijani expressed his gratitude to the fellows for their patience, noting that the delay was necessary to ensure that everything was in place for a successful start. He reassured participants that there is much to look forward to as they embark on their learning journey.
Dr. Tijani also encouraged future participants in the third and fourth cohorts to stay engaged and keep an eye out for updates and new opportunities within the Learning Community. This engagement is crucial for maintaining the momentum of the program and ensuring that more Nigerians can benefit from its offerings.

One of the standout features of the 3MTT program is its success in placing fellows into jobs. Many participants from the first cohort have already secured internships across various industries in Nigeria. These internships provide invaluable hands-on experience, allowing fellows to apply their newly acquired skills in real-world settings.
Moreover, first-cohort fellows will participate in hackathons within their states. These events are designed to foster collaboration and innovation, enabling participants to work together to solve problems and develop solutions that showcase their expertise.

The 3MTT program is a key component of the Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy. By training 3 million Nigerians, the program seeks to build a skilled workforce capable of driving digital transformation and positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of technical talent.
The program’s phased execution ensures that it can scale up systematically and effectively. The first phase began with 30,000 participants, and the second cohort has expanded to 270,000 fellows. This approach ensures that the program remains impactful and manageable.
Collaboration is at the heart of the 3MTT program. It involves a network of government agencies, educational institutions, development organizations, and private sector entities working together to deliver high-quality training and resources.
The training provided by the 3MTT program covers a wide range of digital skills. These include digital marketing, project management software, cloud platforms navigation, data analysis and visualization, search engine optimization (SEO), customer relationship management (CRM) management, accounting software, graphics design, and UX/UI design. By equipping participants with these skills, the program aims to enhance various professional roles without necessarily involving direct tech creation.
The Federal Government’s 3MTT program is a transformative initiative designed to enhance Nigeria’s digital landscape. By providing essential tools like laptops and routers and fostering a collaborative learning environment, the program equips Nigerian youth with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy. As the second cohort begins their learning journey, the program’s impact on job creation, innovation, and technical proficiency continues to grow, driving Nigeria towards a prosperous digital future.
