FG Announces Date To Begin Survival Wage Disbursement For Civil Servants

In a significant move aimed at alleviating the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies, the Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a Survival Wage for civil servants. Set to be disbursed in the coming weeks, this essential support package aims to provide much-needed relief to Nigerian citizens employed in the civil service sector.

The announcement of this crucial development was made by Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, during the National Policy Dialogue on Corruption, Social Norms, and Behavioral Change in Nigeria. The event, organized in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the MacArthur Foundation, served as a platform for Abbas to underscore the House’s commitment to addressing the financial challenges faced by a significant portion of the population.

Highlighting the importance of providing a sustenance wage that can adequately support the citizens, Abbas remarked, “The situation where a significant portion of the population’s take-home pay is insufficient to cover their basic needs fosters various forms of corruption. This is precisely why the House of Representatives is deeply committed to the ongoing revision of the country’s minimum wage.”
