The Federal Government has officially commenced the payment of the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This follows the commitment made by the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, who assured corps members that the new allowance would take effect from March 2025.
Confirming the development, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stated that the payment backlog would also be cleared to ensure that all eligible corps members receive their due entitlements.
Reports indicate that several corps members across the country have started receiving credit alerts reflecting the updated allowance. One recipient, Chinedu, a corps member serving in Lagos, expressed excitement upon noticing the payment in his account. “Seeing N77,000 credited to my account is a huge relief,” he said.

Similarly, the publisher of Corpers Diary, an online platform dedicated to NYSC-related updates, confirmed that corps members nationwide have begun receiving their payments in line with the revised minimum wage policy.
The Federal Government had initially announced the allowance increase in September 2024, aligning it with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. However, delays in implementation caused concerns among corps members despite repeated assurances from authorities.
With the disbursement now underway, the new allowance is expected to ease the financial burden on corps members, helping them manage their living expenses more effectively throughout their service year.
