FG Confirms 2026 Start Date for YEIDEP Batch B

The Federal Government has finally spoken clearly on a question many young Nigerians have been asking for months: When will YEIDEP Batch B begin?

At a recent stakeholders’ engagement, officials confirmed that preparations for the second phase of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP), known as Batch B, are expected to start around the middle of 2026. More importantly, they clarified that fresh registration is not open yet and will only be announced officially later in the year.

This clarification matters. In recent weeks, social media has been flooded with claims that the YEIDEP portal is already accepting Batch B applications. Many youths have tried repeatedly to register, only to meet closed portals and conflicting information. The government’s statement is meant to bring calm, clarity, and direction.

Why YEIDEP Is Being Rolled Out in Phases

According to the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, the phased structure of YEIDEP is intentional. Rather than rushing multiple intakes at once, the government wants to ensure that each stage of the programme works as designed.

From experience, large national intervention programmes often fail when systems are overstretched too early. Payments delay, monitoring becomes weak, and beneficiaries lose trust. Officials say YEIDEP is being handled differently: planning first, coordination next, then expansion.

Batch A focused heavily on system development, partner coordination, and early implementation checks. Batch B, officials explained, will only move forward after these foundations are fully reviewed and strengthened.

What “Mid-2026” Really Means

One key point the minister emphasized is the meaning of “mid-2026.” It does not refer to the early months of the year. Instead, it broadly points to June or July, after Phase One processes are largely completed.

This distinction is important. Many people assumed Batch B would open in January or February 2026. That is not the case. Preparatory activities are expected around mid-year, while actual registration announcements will follow only when the government is ready.

Addressing the Portal Rumours

Government officials were direct about the online rumours. As of now, the YEIDEP portal is not open for Batch B registration. Any website, agent, or social media post claiming otherwise should be treated with caution.

From past programmes, we’ve seen how misinformation can lead young people into scams, wasted time, or false hope. This clarification is meant to protect applicants and public resources, not delay opportunities.

Why This Approach May Actually Benefit Applicants

Separating registration into clear phases allows implementing agencies and financial partners to evaluate what worked, what didn’t, and what needs improvement. It also makes the programme more transparent and sustainable.

In practical terms, this means Batch B beneficiaries are more likely to experience smoother onboarding, clearer communication, and better follow-through than if the programme were rushed.

What People Are Really Searching For Right Now

Is YEIDEP Batch B registration open?
No. The Federal Government has confirmed that registration has not started.

When will YEIDEP Batch B begin?
Preparations are expected around mid-2026, roughly June or July.

Should I keep checking the portal daily?
No. Official announcements will be made publicly before registration opens.

An Expert Perspective

From a youth-policy standpoint, phased implementation is not a delay tactic; it is a risk-management strategy. Programmes that scale responsibly tend to last longer and deliver more impact. YEIDEP’s structure suggests the government is prioritizing credibility and results over speed, which is a positive signal for long-term beneficiaries.
