FG CrediCorp launches vehicle credit scheme to help Nigerians buy locally assembled cars, tricycles, and motorcycles

In a bold move to boost local manufacturing and empower Nigerians, the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CrediCorp), has launched an innovative credit scheme to facilitate the purchase of locally assembled vehicles.

First Phase Rolls Out with Tricycles and Motorcycles

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the launch of the scheme’s first phase on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that credit facilities have been provided to hundreds of buyers of motorcycles and tricycles assembled by Simba (TVS), Nigeria’s largest manufacturer of two- and three-wheelers.

“The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, one of President Tinubu’s flagship initiatives targeted at empowering Nigerians financially, has just recorded another impressive milestone: The rollout of the first set of beneficiaries of a new credit scheme for the purchase of locally assembled automobiles, in partnership with major assembly firms,” Idris stated.

Future Phases to Include Cars

According to the Minister, future phases of the scheme will extend credit support to Nigerians for purchasing locally assembled cars, further driving the nation’s economic growth and industrial development.

The S.C.A.L.E Initiative: Empowering Nigerians

The credit scheme falls under CrediCorp’s S.C.A.L.E. (Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprise) initiative, which aims to make locally produced goods and services more accessible. The program covers five key sectors:

1 Million Beneficiaries by 2026

CrediCorp aims to support at least 1 million Nigerians in purchasing locally made consumer goods by the end of 2026.

“CrediCorp has a target to support 1 million Nigerians to purchase locally-made consumer goods by the end of 2026. This is what the Renewed Hope agenda is all about; empowering Nigerians and creating opportunities!” Idris emphasized.
