FG Releases Important Update on Safety of Indomie Noodles Following Investigation

23 June, 2023, Lagos, Nigeria: The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has concluded its thorough investigation into the alleged presence of ethylene oxide or its metabolite in noodles and their seasonings. In light of the findings, NAFDAC has declared instant noodles produced in Nigeria, specifically Indomie Instant Noodles, safe for consumption.

The investigation was prompted by the recall of Indomie Instant Noodles ‘Special Chicken Flavour’ by the Ministries of Health in Malaysia and Taiwan. These recalls were initiated due to concerns over the alleged presence of ethylene oxide, a compound associated with an increased risk of cancer.

Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, addressed the matter, assuring the public of the safety of Indomie Noodles produced in Nigeria. She emphasized that the rigorous investigation conducted by NAFDAC found no evidence of ethylene oxide or its metabolite in the noodles and their seasonings.

The findings of NAFDAC provide reassurance to consumers who may have been concerned about the potential health risks associated with the consumption of Indomie Noodles. Professor Adeyeye emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of food products available in Nigeria.
