FG Sets February 17 Deadline for Workers’ Verification on IPPIS

The Federal Government has issued a final deadline of February 17, 2025, for all federal civil servants to complete their identity verification on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal. The move, directed by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), aims to eliminate ghost workers and enhance payroll transparency.

Why the Verification is Important

The government has emphasized that any civil servant who fails to complete the verification process risks salary suspension and other disciplinary measures. The exercise requires workers to submit:

  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
  • IPPIS number
  • Salary account details

All submissions must be made through the official OAGF portal (www.oagf.gov.ng) before the deadline.

Final Extension and Government Directive

According to an official memo, the government initially set deadlines in June and August 2024 but later granted a final one-week extension from February 10 to February 17, 2025. The memo highlights that workers who fail to verify their identity by midnight on February 17 may be removed from the payroll.

Accounting officers, finance directors, and audit heads in government agencies have been instructed to enforce compliance.

President Tinubu’s Anti-Fraud Measures

The verification drive aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader payroll reform efforts. In 2024, he directed that civil servants receiving salaries after relocating abroad must refund the money. He also mandated penalties for supervisors and department heads involved in payroll fraud.

Strengthening Accountability in Public Service

This initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability. By sanitizing the federal payroll system, the administration aims to ensure that public funds are allocated only to legitimate employees.

Affected workers are urged to complete their verification promptly to avoid disruptions in salary payments.
