The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has announced Mr. Isiaka Salami, an Assistant Director at the Federal Internal Revenue Service (FIRS), as the recipient of its prestigious 2024 AIG Scholarship. This accolade will enable Salami to pursue a Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford, a program designed to equip African public servants with the expertise necessary to lead transformative changes in the public sector.
In a statement released by the foundation, Salami was selected after a rigorous and competitive process that evaluated candidates based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to public service within Africa. Salami’s selection underscores his readiness to contribute meaningfully to public sector reforms upon his return to Nigeria.
Salami will join a distinguished group of 32 previous AIG Scholars who have benefited from the program since its inception in 2017. His studies are set to begin in September 2024, with an expectation that he will leverage his newly acquired knowledge to advance ongoing public sector reforms in Nigeria.
The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, co-founded by Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, has emphasized the urgent need for transformation within Nigeria’s public sector. The Foundation has invested over £2 million in scholarships for deserving public servants across Africa, reflecting its commitment to fostering a new generation of leaders equipped to address the continent’s challenges with innovative and impactful solutions.
Mrs. Aig-Imoukhuede noted, “The Nigerian public sector is at a critical juncture where transformation is not just urgent but essential. By investing in exceptional public servants like Isiaka, we ensure that the leaders of tomorrow’s public sector are equipped with world-class training to deliver innovative and impactful solutions to the challenges the country faces.”
In line with its broader mission to build capacity within Nigeria’s public sector, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has already invested over N2 billion in training programs and scholarships, impacting more than 500 public servants. The Foundation aims to develop a critical mass of public servants who will lead transformative changes, ensuring that Nigeria’s public sector evolves into a beacon of excellence, integrity, and service.
