In a heartfelt announcement, former Spanish football player Jose Ignacio Peleterio has revealed his conversion to Islam, marking what he describes as the “best moment” of his life. The announcement took place in a poignant 4-minute video, where Peleterio stood before the Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque in Kuwait, pronouncing the Shahadah – a testament of faith – with the guidance of Kuwaiti fitness coach Faisal Buresli.
The video, shared by Arabic daily Al Qabas, captures Peleterio’s reflections on his journey to Islam. The retired footballer expressed that his decision was profoundly influenced by the teachings of Islam, emphasizing the values of love, respect, and happiness he observed in Buresli’s household.

“I am so happy, so powerful. I am in the best moments of my life. I love his family [Buresli’s family] so much,” shared Peleterio.
The catalyst for his conversion was a memorable dining experience at Buresli’s home, where a cake adorned with the words “Welcome to Islam” left a lasting impression. Peleterio expressed his desire to pass on the customs and traditions he witnessed at his friend’s house to his own family and future generations.
Faisal Buresli, reflecting on their friendship, mentioned that Peleterio had visited Kuwait in 2023 and was captivated by the familial bonds and cultural richness. Two months ago, Peleterio expressed his desire to convert to Islam, surprising Buresli, who hadn’t anticipated such a decision.
In 2022, Peleterio retired from professional football after a career spanning English and Spanish clubs, including notable teams like Aston Villa, Real Madrid Castilla, Brentford, Birmingham, Eibar, Alaves, and Celtavego. Post-retirement, he ventured into the business world, running a company specializing in technical products related to agricultural development.
