Geological Societies of America and Nigeria Join Forces for Career Development Webinar

The Geological Society of America (GSA) is partnering with the Geological Society of Nigeria (GSN) to host a Career Development Webinar for aspiring geologists and early career professionals. Ester Sztein, GSA’s Director of International Programs, announced the initiative on her LinkedIn page, emphasizing its significance for the geoscience community.

Scheduled for July 1, 2024, at 7 PM, the webinar, titled “International Opportunities and Career Pathways for Geoscientists,” aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the evolving geoscience sector. The event underscores the increasing demand for geoscientists, as highlighted by the American Geosciences Institute’s “Geoscience Workforce Projections 2019-2029,” which forecasts a 5% growth rate in geoscience jobs over the next decade.

Sztein stressed the importance of preparing the next generation of geoscience professionals to meet this growing demand. “This projection shows that there is a need to prepare the next generation of professionals,” she stated, emphasizing the role of the webinar in this endeavor.

The webinar will feature discussions on emerging fields within geoscience and offer valuable industry insights from professionals across Nigeria, Ghana, and the United States. It is designed to help participants develop essential skills for advancing their careers, making it a crucial platform for those at the beginning of their professional journeys.
