In a decisive move to combat banditry in Zamfara State, Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Badaru Abubakar, has ordered military troops to capture notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, either “dead or alive.” This directive was issued during Abubakar’s visit to the One Brigade Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he received briefings on ongoing military operations.
While addressing the troops, Abubakar stressed the need for immediate action to apprehend Turji, whose group is responsible for numerous violent attacks and kidnappings in the region. “There should be no further delay in apprehending Turji,” he declared, highlighting the urgency of restoring peace and security to the area.

This directive follows a series of successful military operations that have reportedly made progress in reducing banditry in the region. Abubakar mentioned that President Bola Tinubu has recognized these efforts and is supportive of continued military actions against terrorist activities. “President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and encourage you to push harder to end insecurity in these operational areas,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fully equip and resource military efforts.
Zamfara State has long been a hotspot for banditry, with Turji’s group often linked to violent incidents that have devastated local communities. The persistent attacks have led to the displacement of thousands of residents, and despite military efforts, the situation remains precarious. Abubakar acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by bandits, stating, “We must continue to work together to address the security concerns affecting our people.” His emphasis on teamwork highlights the importance of collaboration between the military and local communities in combating the threat of banditry.
