Governor Nasir Idris Inaugurates FIFA Stadium for Development of Football

In a momentous occasion, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State officially inaugurated the FIFA-sponsored stadium in a bid to propel football development within the region.

The inaugural ceremony, held at Goru in Birnin Kebbi, saw Governor Idris emphasizing the pivotal role the stadium will play in motivating and engaging the youth in the game of soccer. Represented by the Kebbi State Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba-Bena, the governor highlighted the administration’s commitment to sports development and the revitalization of annual sports festivals.

The FIFA/NFF project, constructed at a cost of $1,183,000, stands as a significant investment in grassroots soccer development. The Kebbi State Government contributed by providing four hectares of land and compensating landowners with a sum of N19,000,000.

During his address, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to Dr. Sanusi Muhammad, the Secretary General of the NFF, and Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan, a member of the NFF executive committee, for their roles in bringing the project to fruition.

“We need to engage our youths in useful ventures to keep them busy, healthy, and relevant to our societal needs. This government will continue to support clubs and associations to excel,” affirmed Governor Idris, underlining the administration’s dedication to promoting sports and sporting activities.

FIFA representative Mr. Solomon Mudege lauded the project, stating, “It is a dream come true and a positive development for sporting activities in the state.” He emphasized the stadium’s significance in serving both male and female footballers, providing a local facility for matches and contributing to the overall enhancement of sporting activities in Kebbi State.

As the newly inaugurated FIFA stadium opens its doors, it marks a significant step forward in Kebbi State’s commitment to nurturing football talent and fostering a vibrant sports culture at the grassroots level.
