Govt Distributes Rice, Not N100M, as Constituency Palliative – Reps

In response to recent claims circulating in a viral video, the House of Representatives has clarified that the federal government provided rice, not N100 million, as palliative measures for their constituencies. Contrary to reports suggesting a monetary distribution, Rep. Akin Rotimi, the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, stated that members received rice to be distributed to their respective constituencies.

Rep. Dekeri Anamero, representing Etsako Federal Constituency, had mentioned in the viral video that President Bola Tinubu supplied each member with two trailers of rice for distribution. Chairman Rotimi clarified that the additional palliatives were facilitated by the Speaker of the House of Reps and handled by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, adhering to public procurement laws.

Rotimi emphasized that no legislator has been provided with money for palliatives, and the procurement process is ongoing across different constituencies. While politicians may be visible during the distribution process, the ultimate goal is to bring relief to the people.

The 10th House of Representatives assures the public that they are committed to engaging and earning the trust of Nigerians as their elected representatives.
