Gunmen Kill Taraba Monarch Inside Palace

In a tragic turn of events, the traditional ruler of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba state, Alhaji Abdulmutalib Jankada, has been fatally shot by gunmen within the confines of his palace. The assailants, arriving on motorcycles, launched a swift and targeted attack on Thursday night, catching the monarch off guard as he rested after a day’s work.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots but were unaware that the violence was unfolding within the palace walls. Musa Sansani, a resident of Sansani town, expressed shock, revealing that the late chief had plans to attend the Nwonyo fishing festival in Ibbi. Little did they know that tragedy would strike so close to home.

The late traditional ruler, who had previously endured a harrowing abduction along the Jalingo-Wukari road two years ago, succumbed to the brutal assault. Despite efforts to secure his release back then, his life was tragically cut short by this latest act of violence.

In accordance with Islamic rites, the late chief will be laid to rest following Friday prayers, marking the end of an era for the Sansani chiefdom. As the community mourns the loss of a respected leader, questions linger about the motives behind this heinous act and the safety of those left behind.
