How JAMB Rescued Muslim Students Barred From Covenant University’s Mock UTME Exam Over Hijab

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oleyede

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has come out to narrate its role in rescuing female Muslim students who were prevented from taking the Mock UTME examination at Covenant University, Otta, Ogun State. The incident occurred when the students were denied access to the university premises for wearing Hijab, which sparked outrage across the country, with many accusing the university of discrimination.

In response to the incident, JAMB stated that it took immediate action once it became aware of the situation. The university was contacted and it vehemently denied authorizing its security personnel to prevent any genuine candidate from entering the institution. According to the university, no such instruction was given, and it decried the embarrassment the incident caused the institution.

Upon learning of the situation, JAMB, along with the university’s CBT Centre officials, rushed to the gate to rescue the unfortunate situation and ensure that the candidates could take their examination. However, due to the unwarranted delay, the affected candidates were unable to meet the time for the examination.
