Changing your polling unit in Nigeria is now easier through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) online portal. This process ensures that voters can cast their ballots in locations that are more convenient to them, especially if they have changed residence.
Steps to Change Your Polling Unit
- Visit the INEC Portal
Start by going to https://cvr.inecnigeria.org. On the homepage, click on “Transfer Your Voter Information” to begin the process. - Log in with Your Details
You will be required to provide your full name, phone number, and email address. If you have your Voter Identification Number (VIN), include it to make the process faster. - Apply for Transfer
Select the option to transfer your polling unit. Fill in the application form with details of your new location and the polling unit where you would like to vote.
- Review and Submit
Carefully go through the information you entered before submitting. Once done, save or print the acknowledgment slip for record purposes. - Biometric Capture (if required)
INEC may direct you to visit the nearest local office for biometric verification, such as fingerprint capture, before your request is finalized. - Confirmation and Collection of New PVC
After processing, INEC will inform you when your updated Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is ready for collection at your local government INEC office.
Important Notes
- The transfer process is free of charge.
- You can only apply once during each registration cycle.
- Ensure you complete the process well before the election date to be eligible to vote in your new polling unit.
By following these simple steps, Nigerian voters can conveniently update their voting location and ensure they participate in elections without stress.
