What is the NIMC MWS Mobile ID App?

The app uses QR codes to perform real-time identity verification without storing personal data on the device.

Profile Verification Overview

Each verification costs 1 credit unit.
Every new user receives 30 free credits for trial purposes.

There are two levels of verification available:

• Basic ID Verification:
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name
• Full ID Verification:
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Nationality
  • Sex

The person whose profile is scanned controls what information they wish to share — either Basic ID or Full ID — before the verification takes place.

How to Verify Your Own Profile (Show My ID)

Follow these easy steps to verify your profile:

1. Open the MWS Mobile ID app on your Android or iOS device.
2. Enter your PIN to unlock the app.
3. On the Home Screen, tap “SHOW MY ID”.
4. Toggle the switch above your QR barcode:
   • Select “Basic ID” or
   • Select “Full ID”, depending on what you wish to share.
5. Allow the verifier to scan your QR barcode using their MWS Mobile ID app.
6. In a few seconds, your passport photograph and names linked to your profile will be displayed on the verifier’s screen (your information is not saved on their device).

How to Verify Someone Else’s Profile (Scan an ID)

If you need to verify another person’s ID, follow these steps:

1. Open the MWS Mobile ID app.
2. Enter your PIN to unlock the app.
3. On the Home Screen, tap “SCAN AN ID”.
4. Allow camera access (only required the first time).
5. Hold your device steadily above the other person’s QR barcode.
6. Wait a few seconds for the scan to complete.
7. The person’s verified passport photo and names will appear on your app — but nothing is saved on your device.

Important Notes

• The NIN (National Identification Number) identifies Nigerian citizens and legal residents.
  However, the NIN itself does not grant citizenship. Citizenship matters are handled by the Nigeria Immigration Service.
• Lost your NIN slip?

How to View Your Profile Verification History

Want to know who has verified your profile? Here’s how:

1. Open the MWS Mobile ID app and enter your PIN.
2. Tap the “Tools” menu at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap “STATISTICS”.
4. From the dropdown, select “Scan Alerts”.
5. Tap the cylindrical database icon at the top of the scan screen.
6. Here, you can:
   • View a list of verifiers who scanned your profile.
   • Check your Credit Status to see how many verifications you have left.
