I Inherited $587m, N85bn Debts from El-Rufai's Govt, Can't Pay Salaries – Gov Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has disclosed that he inherited a substantial debt of $587 million and N85 billion, along with 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration led by Nasir El-Rufai. He expressed concern that this significant debt has substantially impacted the state’s federal allocation. Despite these financial challenges, Governor Sani affirmed his commitment to guiding Kaduna towards progress, utilizing the available limited resources.

During a town hall meeting convened to provide an account of his administration’s stewardship, Governor Sani, alongside his deputy Hadiza Balarabe, briefed attendees on the state’s revenue profile and the debts left by the preceding administration. Among the participants were traditional rulers, religious leaders, politicians, members of organized labor, civil society organizations, youth, and women groups. Notable figures such as former Governor Ramalan Yero and former Chief of Defence Staff General Martin-Luther Agwai were also present, along with members of the state executive council and the House of Assembly.
