I’d Prefer MLS Over Saudi - Osimhen

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has made a statement that’s turning heads in the football world. In a recent Twitch interview with Emiliano Viviano and former Italy forward Mario Balotelli, Osimhen openly expressed his preference for playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) over the Saudi Pro League, provided the conditions were equal. This revelation came in the wake of Osimhen reportedly turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al Hilal during the summer transfer window.

Osimhen began by emphasizing his contentment at Napoli, shedding light on the challenges of competing in Serie A, which he described as one of the most demanding leagues in terms of tactics and physicality. He stated, “I am happy at Napoli.” However, when asked whether he would choose the MLS or the Saudi Pro League under identical conditions, Osimhen was unequivocal, saying, “If I had the same conditions, I would go to MLS.”

The Nigerian international also acknowledged the recent developments in the Saudi Pro League. With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar Jr. making high-profile moves to Saudi clubs, the league has attracted global attention. The Saudi Pro League has witnessed significant investment, with Saudi clubs collectively spending almost $1 billion to acquire 94 overseas players from Europe’s top leagues.

“They are trying to develop their league, which is good,” Osimhen commented during the interview. “One of the greatest of all time [Cristiano Ronaldo] has gone there. Because of his influence, they have attracted a lot of talented players to also go there. So for me, it’s really good; they are trying to build their league into one of the best. For me, they are doing something amazing.”

Despite ongoing negotiations for a contract extension, Osimhen has not reached a decision about his future with Napoli. His current agreement is set to expire in June 2025, but Napoli remains hopeful that he will ultimately sign a new deal, despite acknowledging that he has had “second thoughts” about the extension.

It’s important to note that Osimhen, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 from Lille, played a pivotal role in helping the club secure the Serie A title last season, ending a 33-year championship drought.

As football enthusiasts eagerly await Osimhen’s decision regarding his future, his words have added another layer of intrigue to the ongoing transfer saga, potentially impacting the Serie A and the growing appeal of the Saudi Pro League.
