Popular Nigerian singer, Portable, has expressed his disappointment after meeting Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate. The two met in Benin, Edo State, over the weekend, where Obi was supporting the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata, and Portable was performing at a show.
In a viral video, Portable is seen excitedly approaching Obi’s car, bowing and exchanging pleasantries with the former Anambra State governor. However, shortly after the encounter, Portable appeared visibly disappointed, lamenting that Obi did not offer him any money.

Speaking in Yoruba, Portable unfavorably compared Obi to President Bola Tinubu, saying, “If it were Tinubu, he’d have given us something.” He then walked away, expressing his discontent.
Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, rose to fame in December 2021 with his hit single ‘Zazoo Zeh’, featuring Olamide and Poco Lee. Since then, he has remained in the public eye, often for controversial reasons.
This incident has generated mixed reactions, with some criticizing Portable’s expectations of payment for a brief encounter, while others see it as a reflection of the country’s cultural norms around gift-giving and patronage.
