I'm a Man," Bobrisky Tells Court

Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, found himself in the spotlight once again as he appeared in court and declared his gender identity during sentencing for naira abuse.

The federal judge in Lagos sentenced Bobrisky to six months in jail without the option of a fine for mutilating naira notes. This decision came after Bobrisky was found guilty of tampering with the Nigerian currency during a social event at Imax Circle Mall in Jakande, Lekki, on March 24, 2024.

The judge, Justice Awogboro, emphasized the seriousness of the offense, highlighting its detrimental impact on the country’s image. “Enough of people mutilating and tampering with our currencies. It has to stop,” Justice Awogboro asserted.

Bobrisky’s case underscores the complexities of gender identity and the importance of upholding legal standards while respecting individual rights and freedoms. Despite his flamboyant public persona, his declaration in court serves as a reminder of the need for acceptance and understanding.

As Bobrisky begins his six-month sentence at Ikoyi Correctional Centre, his case continues to spark conversations about identity, acceptance, and the rule of law in Nigerian society.
