The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume nationwide in August 2025. This move is part of INEC’s commitment to ensure that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission is calling on all citizens, especially youths, women, and persons with disabilities, to seize this opportunity to register, update, or correct their voter information.
Important Dates to Note
The voter registration process will take place in two phases:
- Online Pre-Registration begins on August 18, 2025
- In-Person Registration begins on August 25, 2025
Nigerians are encouraged to start the process online through the INEC Continuous Voter Registration Portal before completing the registration in person at designated centers nationwide.
What You Can Do During the CVR Exercise
INEC has outlined a range of services available during this registration period. Citizens can:
- Register as a new voter if they are 18 years or older
- Update their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) details
- Transfer their voter registration to a new polling unit
- Replace a lost or damaged PVC
- Correct personal information errors on their PVC
These services are aimed at enhancing electoral participation, reducing barriers to voting, and ensuring that all eligible Nigerians can vote during the upcoming elections.

Why Voter Registration Is Crucial
Voter registration is not just a legal requirement but a civic duty. It gives citizens the power to influence national and local decisions that affect their lives. With the growing population of young Nigerians who will be eligible to vote for the first time, this exercise is a major step towards strengthening democratic participation across the country.
The CVR process also supports INEC’s goal of improving the accuracy of the national voter register by enabling updates and corrections.
How to Begin the Process
Eligible Nigerians can begin their registration or review process by visiting the official INEC Continuous Voter Registration Portal through the link below. The platform allows users to pre-register online, check their status, request transfers, and track PVC updates.

Take Action Now
INEC urges all eligible Nigerians not to wait until the last minute. Those who fail to register or update their information on time may be unable to vote in future elections. Citizens are also encouraged to help spread awareness within their communities to ensure no one is left behind.
Tell Others to Register
This is a national call to action. Whether you are registering for the first time or updating your voter details, your participation helps shape the future of Nigeria. Share this information with friends, family, and colleagues so everyone has a chance to be heard.
