In a heartbreaking development, Israel’s military has confirmed the recovery of the bodies of six hostages, including Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who were brutally murdered by Hamas militants in Gaza. The hostages were discovered in tunnels beneath the city of Rafah, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson, stated that the victims were killed shortly before Israeli soldiers could reach them.
Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old California native, had become a symbol of the ongoing hostage crisis that has gripped Israel since October 7, when he was seized at the Nova music festival during a Hamas-led attack. His parents had been among the most vocal advocates for the hostages’ release, pushing for diplomatic efforts and meeting with world leaders to secure their son’s return.
The other victims have been identified as Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alex Lobanov, and Ori Danino. The Goldberg-Polin family expressed their devastation in a public statement, thanking supporters for their love and asking for privacy during this difficult time.
U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the murders, expressing outrage and sorrow while praising the resilience and courage of the Goldberg-Polin family. The tragic discovery underscores the ongoing tension and violence in the region, which has already seen widespread destruction and loss of life.
