The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that over 379,997 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following technical issues and irregularities that affected the original examination.
According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the decision came after an internal investigation revealed significant technical glitches and question inconsistencies at several Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres during the recently concluded 2025 UTME. These issues led to mass failure and a flood of complaints from candidates, parents, and stakeholders across the country.
Prof. Oloyede apologized publicly, acknowledging the board’s shortcomings and assuring Nigerians that corrective measures are being implemented.
“What was meant to be a joyful moment turned into frustration for many candidates. We take full responsibility,” – Prof. Oloyede.
The rescheduled UTME will begin on Friday, 16th May 2025, and most of the affected candidates will write their exams on Saturday and the days following.
Candidates are advised to check their phones and email inboxes for official messages from JAMB regarding their new exam date and time.
Where Will the Exam Take Place?
The rescheduled examination will take place at designated CBT centres across specific zones affected by the technical issues. According to JAMB:
In the Lagos exam zone, 65 CBT centres in Lagos and Oyo States were affected.
In the Owerri exam zone, 92 centres spread across Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi States were also affected.
How to Reprint Your Exam Slip
All affected candidates must reprint their UTME exam slips to know:
Exact date
Venue
Time of their rescheduled exam.
Candidates can reprint their slips by visiting the JAMB official website or using the JAMB e-Facility portal. They should also check their emails, text messages, and in some cases, expect phone calls from JAMB.
What If It Clashes With WAEC?
JAMB acknowledged that some candidates may face clashes with ongoing WAEC examinations. However, the board said it has coordinated with WAEC to minimize such conflicts and allow candidates the opportunity to sit for both exams without missing either.
Background: 2025 UTME Result Controversy
Following the release of the 2025 UTME results, social media erupted with complaints under hashtags like #ThisIsNotMyResult, as thousands of candidates reported unusually low scores despite performing well in previous mock or past JAMB exams.
Out of 1.5 million candidates, over 80% reportedly scored below 200 out of 400, one of the lowest performances recorded in recent years. The board responded by launching a comprehensive review of the examination process and results.
JAMB has reassured candidates and the public that efforts are ongoing to improve the integrity and transparency of its examination process. Affected students are encouraged to remain calm and prepare adequately for the rescheduled test.
