In a groundbreaking move, the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has declared that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2024 will be devoid of registration fees for individuals with disabilities.
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has officially announced during a media interactive session that the 2024 UTME will offer free registration to persons living with disabilities. This progressive step aims to foster inclusivity and equal opportunities in higher education.

As part of this initiative, JAMB will provide free application documents to all categories of persons with disabilities, offering crucial support for their educational aspirations. In a bid to create a level playing field, audio books will be made available for blind candidates. This digital adaptation of traditional reading materials will be compatible with various audio formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA, accessible on all devices capable of streaming audio records.
Prof Oloyede highlighted that the introduction of audio books was a response to suggestions made at the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria. This innovation is poised to enhance comprehension for blind candidates, ensuring a fair and accommodating examination process.

To further accommodate blind candidates, diagrams will be excluded from their examination questions. Additionally, all candidates, regardless of disability status, will receive a free e-copy of the reading text for the 2024 UTME. This move demonstrates JAMB’s commitment to facilitating an inclusive and supportive environment for all candidates.
The registration for the 2024 UTME is set to commence on January 15, with a registration fee of N6,200 for candidates opting out of the mock examination. Those participating in the mock exam will pay N7,700 for the registration process.
This proactive and inclusive approach by JAMB signifies a significant stride towards creating a more accessible and equitable educational landscape in Nigeria.
