The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has successfully conducted the foreign component of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in eight countries, marking a significant step towards globalizing Nigerian tertiary education. The exams, held on July 13, were conducted in London, United Kingdom; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Buea, Cameroon; Accra, Ghana; Cotonou, Benin Republic; Johannesburg, South Africa; Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire; and Banjul, The Gambia.
This initiative aims to promote Nigerian universities globally, positioning them alongside international peers. By attracting foreign candidates, JAMB seeks to enhance diversity and the global profile of Nigerian higher education institutions.
JAMB has also integrated international student admissions as a criterion for the NATAP M-Award, which recognizes institutions excelling in global recruitment. The overall winner stands to receive N500 million, with additional prizes totaling N250 million for other high-performing institutions.

Looking forward, JAMB has finalized preparations for the 2024 admission exercise, scheduled to commence after the Admission Policy Meeting on July 18. Chaired by the Minister of Education, this meeting will determine guidelines for admissions, review the 2023 admissions performance, and assess the 2024 UTME results.
The meeting will establish minimum admission scores based on institutional submissions, emphasizing that these are thresholds rather than cut-off marks. All admissions must comply with guidelines set during the policy meeting, ensuring fairness and transparency in the admission process.
This global outreach not only strengthens Nigeria’s educational ties but also aligns with JAMB’s mission to enhance the quality and inclusivity of higher education in Nigeria.
