The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken a proactive step to simplify the registration process for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by allowing candidates to generate their profile codes in advance. This move is aimed at reducing potential challenges and ensuring a seamless registration experience for aspiring students.
In a recent statement released by JAMB and reported by JAMBulletin, prospective candidates are now encouraged to take advantage of this early opportunity to generate their profile codes and save them for future use when the official registration period commences in the coming weeks.
A key requirement for UTME/DE registration is the National Identification Number (NIN), and JAMB advises candidates to obtain their NIN early. Detailed guidelines on the NIN acquisition process are available in a previous post on the official JAMB platform. It is important to note that the NIN is a mandatory prerequisite for the upcoming UTME registration.
To generate their profile codes, candidates are instructed to send a text message (SMS) in the format “NIN [space] NIN number” to either 55019 or 66019 from their personal GSM numbers. For instance, the SMS should read: “NIN 12345678901” (without the apostrophe), and it should be sent to either 55019 or 66019. Upon sending the SMS, candidates will receive a ten-character profile code on the same telephone number used for the text message.

Candidates should be aware that the phone number used to generate the profile code is automatically linked to their respective names. This number will serve as the primary communication channel for all information from the Board concerning the application, examination, and admission processes.
JAMB emphasizes the importance of early preparation for the 2024 UTME and recommends downloading the JAMB CBT Mobile app and the JAMB CBT software for effective study sessions. The mobile app provides instant notifications for crucial updates from JAMB, enhancing candidates’ readiness for the examination.
In addition to the registration guidelines, JAMB issues a strict warning against the use of henna, also known as “Laali” or “Lale.” Candidates are advised against applying henna on their fingers, as it has been observed to impede the biometric verification process during registration. Attempts to clean henna designs with chemicals have resulted in damage to the whorls on fingers, making biometric verification and authentication challenging, if not impossible.
For the latest and most comprehensive information on the 2024 UTME registration process, candidates are urged to visit the official JAMB website and stay informed through reputable sources.
