A tragic stampede on Saturday claimed the lives of 22 people in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, during a charity event organized by the Obijackson Foundation. The event, aimed at distributing food items, turned fatal when a large crowd surged forward, resulting in chaos and multiple casualties.
The Anambra State Police confirmed the incident in a statement, with Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono visiting the hospital where victims were treated. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragedy and prevent future occurrences.
