Gunmen have abducted and killed Alhaji Bako Bala, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The tragic incident took place on Wednesday, leaving the community in shock and further raising concerns about the growing insecurity in the state.
According to a post by Alhaji Zaidu Bala Kofa Sabuwa, the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Television and Radio, the gunmen invaded Bala’s hometown, where they kidnapped him. After the abduction, they shot him and left him severely wounded, lying in a pool of blood. Bala was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi, where he was pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.
This incident adds to the increasing list of violent attacks in Kebbi State, where armed groups have been terrorizing communities through kidnappings and killings. Despite efforts by security forces, supported by the state government, to eliminate criminal hideouts and protect residents, these violent incidents have continued unabated.

In a related attack, bandits reportedly stormed Matseri village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where they kidnapped one person. During the attack, a young man was also shot and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi.
Attempts to reach the Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, for a statement on these incidents were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The lack of a formal response from law enforcement authorities has heightened concerns among residents who fear the violence will continue without stronger interventions from security agencies.
Kebbi State, along with other parts of northern Nigeria, has been grappling with escalating insecurity. Armed groups, including bandits and kidnappers, have targeted individuals and communities, often demanding ransoms or carrying out attacks with deadly consequences. The killing of Alhaji Bako Bala, a prominent political figure in the region, underscores the severity of the situation, as criminals now appear to target not just ordinary citizens but high-profile individuals as well.
