JUST IN: INEC Fixes Date For Kebbi, Adamawa Governorship Elections

Kebbi governorship election (Kauran Gwandu and General Aminu Bande)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the conduct of supplementary governorship elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states. The election, which was previously declared inconclusive, will take place on April 15, 2023.

In addition to the governorship elections, INEC has also announced that supplementary polls for national and state assembly elections will also take place on the same day. This decision was reached after a meeting held by the commission on Monday.

It can be recalled that the governorship elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states were held on March 18, but were declared inconclusive due to a number of factors, including violence and irregularities. INEC subsequently ordered a rerun in some polling units where the elections were cancelled or did not take place.

The supplementary polls will provide an opportunity for the people of Kebbi and Adamawa states to exercise their civic rights and choose the leaders they want to govern them. It is important that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, and that all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, abide by the rules and regulations set by INEC.

INEC has assured Nigerians that it is committed to conducting credible elections that reflect the will of the people. The commission has also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in the electoral process.

As we approach the supplementary elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states, it is important that all stakeholders play their roles in ensuring that the elections are peaceful, free, and fair. The media, civil society organizations, and international observers have a critical role to play in monitoring the elections and reporting any irregularities.

The outcome of the elections will have far-reaching implications for the people of Kebbi and Adamawa states, and for Nigeria as a whole. It is therefore important that everyone involved in the electoral process plays their part in ensuring that the process is credible and that the results reflect the will of the people.
