JUST IN: JAMB Cancels Aptitude Test for 2024 Direct Entry Candidates

JAMB Cancels Aptitude Test for 2024 Direct Entry Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the cancellation of the aptitude test for Direct Entry (DE) candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions in 2024. This decision, published on JAMB’s official communication channels, marks a significant departure from previous years’ procedures.

In a statement released on Monday, JAMB clarified that instead of the aptitude test, other criteria will now be considered for Direct Entry admissions. This move aims to streamline the admission process while ensuring fairness and efficiency.

According to the bulletin, preparations for the 2024 admission exercise are well underway, with the annual policy meeting scheduled for July 18, 2024, in Abuja. This meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, will authorize the commencement of this year’s admission process across various tertiary institutions.

Key highlights of the upcoming policy meeting include the review of the 2023 admissions exercise and the performance of candidates in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Importantly, the meeting will approve the minimum admission scores, which are not to be mistaken for cut-off marks but rather as baseline scores no institution should fall below during admissions.

Furthermore, the policy meeting will introduce the National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards), featuring significant financial rewards for outstanding achievements in tertiary admissions.

It is crucial to note that no institution is permitted to initiate the admission process until after the policy meeting, where guidelines governing the entire admission exercise will be established and endorsed by the Minister of Education. Any deviation from these guidelines will result in appropriate sanctions against the erring institution.

In conclusion, JAMB’s decision to cancel the aptitude test for 2024 Direct Entry candidates reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the Nigerian tertiary education admission system. The upcoming policy meeting is poised to set the tone for this year’s admissions, ensuring that standards are maintained across board.
