Effective from January 1, 2024, Nigeria’s Fixed-Lines Numbering Format will expand from eight digits to 10 digits, introducing the “02” prefix before existing fixed numbers. 3. Examples of Format Change: For instance, the current number format of 09461700 will transform into 02094617000 in the new numbering system. Similarly, major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano will see their current number formats evolve to include the “02” prefix.
4. Mobile Numbering Remains Unchanged: Importantly, this change only affects fixed telephone numbers. There will be no alteration to the existing mobile numbering format. Mobile phone users can continue to use their current numbers without any modifications.
