The NYSC scheme was established in 1973 by the Nigerian government to foster national unity and promote understanding among Nigerian youths from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. The program requires all Nigerian graduates below the age of 30 to serve the nation for one year in various states across the country.

In March, the Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, announced a 22-man Inter-Ministerial committee to oversee the 50th-year anniversary of the scheme, scheduled to hold in May. The event will commemorate the contributions of the NYSC scheme to national development and highlight the challenges facing the program.

The NYSC registration exercise is a critical step towards fulfilling the one-year national service obligation for Nigerian graduates. Prospective corps members are urged to take advantage of the registration period to complete their registration on time and avoid the rush that usually accompanies late registration.
