NYSC DG Camp relocation 2024

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, has called on corps members to embrace their posting locations instead of seeking relocation back to their home communities. During his visit to the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Kaduna to address the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream ‘I’ corps members, Ahmed emphasized the importance of adapting to new environments, asserting that life does not end within the confines of one’s community.

He advised corps members to view their service year as an opportunity to grow, explore, and find a sense of belonging wherever they are posted. According to him, adapting to different cultures and environments is crucial not only for the success of the service year but also for personal development and self-reliance. Ahmed noted that embracing these changes could lead to long-term benefits, encouraging corps members to contribute positively to the development of their host communities.

Ahmed urged the corps members to immerse themselves in their new surroundings, respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, and make efforts to add value. He expressed optimism that some corps members might even choose to remain in their host communities after their service year, having built meaningful connections and opportunities there. He also stressed the importance of maintaining peace and resilience, while being proactive in seeking ways to make a positive impact.

Security was a key aspect of Ahmed’s message. While he reassured corps members that their safety was a top priority for the NYSC, he reminded them that no one could secure them better than themselves. He warned against unauthorized night travel and urged them to take precautions to avoid unnecessary risks during their service year.

Another critical area the NYSC boss highlighted was the need for corps members to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) program. He described the program as a tool to empower corps members with the skills needed to become self-reliant and productive. Ahmed pointed out that many past participants of the scheme had successfully utilized these opportunities to become independent and create jobs for others. He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to youth empowerment and urged corps members to engage actively in the program to maximize its benefits.

Ahmed also cautioned corps members against practices that could tarnish the image of the NYSC, including indecent dressing and other inappropriate behaviors. He reminded them that their actions reflect not only on themselves but also on the integrity of the scheme.

By encouraging corps members to remain open-minded, adaptable, and committed to their personal and professional development, the NYSC DG underscored the transformative potential of the service year. He concluded by urging corps members to focus on building a future that transcends the boundaries of their immediate communities, leveraging the experiences and opportunities provided by the NYSC.
