Police Kill Suspected Bandit, Arrest Two Others in Kebbi

In a recent operation aimed at combating banditry in Kebbi State, the State Police Command has confirmed the death of a suspected bandit and the arrest of two others. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, on Friday, the operation resulted in significant recoveries and achievements in the fight against criminal activities in the state.

The incident, which took place on June 21, 2024, involved armed bandits on motorcycles who invaded Kurgeye village in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area. During the raid, the bandits kidnapped Malami Danladi and his son, Bello Danladi. Upon receiving the distress call, a team comprising 36 Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, swiftly responded.

A pursuit ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the security operatives and the bandits. In the course of the confrontation, one bandit was fatally shot, and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. The recovered items included three AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a Bajaj motorcycle, underscoring the intensity of the encounter.

In a separate operation on September 3, 2024, security operatives conducted a joint patrol with vigilantes along the Ribah-Kanya Road, resulting in the apprehension of two suspects, Isiya Alhaji Usman and Yunusa Yusuf. The suspects were believed to be associated with the bandits responsible for terrorizing the region. During the arrest, law enforcement seized additional weapons, including a K2 rifle, a fabricated AK-47 rifle with three magazines, and 66 rounds of live ammunition.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the dedication and bravery exhibited by the officers involved in the operations. He emphasized the need for continued vigilance and cooperation among security agencies to effectively combat banditry and maintain peace in the state. The suspects and recovered items have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.

The successful operations underscore the commitment of the Kebbi State Police Command and its partners in tackling criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents. With ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and enhance operational capabilities, the command remains resolute in its mission to rid the state of criminal activities and uphold law and order.
