The Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack on the Kuje prison.
The group made the announcement in a video released by Humangle journalist Murtala Abdullahi during its attack on Tuesday.
The group released a video of the attack in which they confessed to opening fire and setting cars on fire.
Murtala Abdullahi made the announcement on his Twitter account saying; “ISWAP release a video of the attack on Kuje Prison in Abuja”
The federal government claims that 64 Boko Haram fighters escaped from the prison without being arrested.
The chairman of the Prisons Service added that after that, the attackers stole N38 million from the prison and overtook 64 of its fighters.
President Muhammadu Buhari visited the Kuje Prison after the attack, expressing his displeasure over the attack on the Kuje Prison.
