Kebbi State is gearing up for a significant boost in agricultural innovation with the recent procurement of 6,000 solar pumps and power tillers. Governor Dr. Nasir Idris made this announcement during a visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, in Abuja.
The purpose of this initiative is to support the Federal Government’s Special Dry Season Programme under the Ministry of Agriculture. Governor Idris emphasized the state’s commitment to providing solar-powered boreholes and power tillers to farmers participating in the program across Kebbi.

During the visit, Governor Idris extended an invitation to Minister Kyari to serve as the Special Guest at the launch of the Kaura Agricultural Development and Growth Agenda. This event will also mark the distribution of the newly acquired solar pumps and power tillers to farmers in Kebbi State.
Minister Kyari commended the proactive steps taken to enhance food production and reduce reliance on rain-fed agriculture. He highlighted the recent Wheat Dry Season Farming initiative across 15 states, emphasizing the importance of year-round farming to ensure national food security.

Acknowledging Kebbi State as one of the key regions for dry-season farming, Minister Kyari praised the government’s efforts in overcoming initial challenges, such as land preparation and tubular irrigation facilitation for wheat cultivation. He also noted the state’s support to farmers with fertilizers, inputs, and funds for commodity associations, contributing to increased agricultural productivity.
Accompanying the Governor were the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, and the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Shehu Muazu.
