Kaduna Electric and TCN Collaborate to Restore Power in Kebbi State

In the wake of a devastating fire that struck the Transmission Works Centre in Birnin Kebbi, Kaduna Electric and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have embarked on a collaborative mission to restore power supply to Kebbi State. Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya, the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric, made this announcement following his visit to assess the ongoing efforts to rectify the power outage that has affected the State capital and its neighboring areas.

The midnight inferno at the Transmission Works Centre last week plunged Kebbi State into darkness, causing widespread inconvenience. However, Engr. Yahaya assured that a dedicated team of skilled engineers from TCN and Kaduna Electric are working tirelessly to expedite the restoration of electricity to the State.

“While the TCN team is working around the clock, my colleagues are carrying out re-configuration and realignment in the network to ensure that we restore limited capacity to the State capital and adjoining local government councils in the days to come,” he stated during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kebbi State.

Engr. Yahaya expressed heartfelt sympathy on behalf of Kaduna Electric to the government, residents of Kebbi State, TCN, and all stakeholders, acknowledging the “unpleasant experience” caused by the power outage. He also emphasized that such incidents are subjected to thorough investigation in order to determine the root causes and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.

The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, Tafidan Kabi, expressed gratitude for the visit and pledged the State Government’s support in safeguarding power supply infrastructure.

The Kaduna Electric Managing Director also visited the Transmission Works Centre in Birnin Kebbi, where he witnessed the dedicated efforts of teams from TCN and Kaduna Electric working diligently to bring the station back into service. Engr. Yahaya commended the commitment and swift response of the TCN team and pledged the Distribution Company’s unwavering support and cooperation.

In meetings with the Emirs of Gwandu and Argungu, Engr. Yahaya expressed concern over the inconveniences caused by the power outage and urged the traditional leaders to mobilize their communities in safeguarding power supply installations from vandalism.

“I want to appeal to Your Royal Highnesses to help us, through the traditional leadership at the District and Wards level, in mobilizing the entire populace to be more vigilant and apprehend anyone seen pilfering with any equipment or acting suspiciously near or around our distribution transformers. Acts of vandalism are attacks on our collective well-being and means of sustenance,” he cautioned.

Both the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, and the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, commended Engr. Yahaya for his visit and reassurances, pledging their cooperation in raising awareness among the public.

The collaboration between Kaduna Electric and TCN signifies a promising step toward the restoration of power supply to Kebbi State, offering hope to the residents who have endured the challenges brought about by the recent power outage.
