Kaduna Electric, an electricity distribution company, has taken a significant step towards improving power supply in the Kaduna metropolis. The company recently announced the construction and commissioning of two new substations in response to customer demands and its commitment to enhancing service delivery.
The first substation, known as the 33KV Mothercat Feeder, was inaugurated on May 15, 2023. Together with the associated 11KV Mando and 11KV Water Resources feeders, it aims to address the persistent power supply challenges faced by customers in Mando and surrounding areas of Kaduna. These communities have long endured limited access to electricity due to the overloading of the existing 33KV Kinkinau Injection Substation. However, the introduction of the 33KV Mothercat Feeder is expected to significantly improve supply reliability and quality.
The second substation, the 11KV Commercial Feeder, was commissioned on May 6, 2023, and specifically caters to commercial customers previously serviced by the 11KV Constitution Road feeder. To ensure effective energy accountability, customers on this feeder have been appropriately metered. Both the 11KV Constitution Road feeder and the new 11KV Commercial Feeder are supplied by the 33KV Independence Injection Substation.

Customers connected to the Mothercat and Commercial Feeders, classified under Band A, can now expect an average of 20 hours of electricity supply. This development brings hope and relief to residents and businesses, promising improved productivity and economic growth.
Kaduna Electric reaffirmed its commitment to meeting customer expectations for better power supply. The company urged customers to reciprocate by promptly settling their bills and refraining from energy theft and other activities that hinder optimal service delivery.
By investing in the construction and commissioning of these new substations, Kaduna Electric has taken a crucial stride towards enhancing the electricity infrastructure in Kaduna. The improved power supply will undoubtedly contribute to the overall development and well-being of the communities it serves.
