In preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, the Kano State government has announced a significant budget allocation of N6 billion aimed at providing meals for the less privileged across the state. This initiative, spearheaded by the commissioner for information and home affairs, Hon Baba Dantiye, aims to reach an estimated four million people throughout the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, Commissioner Dantiye outlined the comprehensive plan, which includes the establishment of 90 special feeding centers across the densely populated Kano metropolitan area, encompassing eight local government areas. These centers, strategically located in mosques, remand centers, Almajiri schools, hospitals, and Islamic schools, will serve an average of 18,000 individuals daily.

The allocated budget covers various expenses, including the procurement of food items, hiring of cooking utensils, allowances for cooks and security personnel, as well as firewood, among other necessities for the entire duration of Ramadan. Each feeding center will be staffed with three cooks and three security personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the program and prevent any disruptions or incidents.
In addition to staple foods like rice, the feeding program will offer a variety of nutritious options such as beans cake and pap, catering to the dietary needs of the beneficiaries. Meals will be served promptly between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, targeting those in dire need within the community.
This ambitious initiative underscores the Kano State government’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
