Kano Government Allocates ₦100 Million for Renovation of Nassarawa Mini Palace

The Kano State Executive Council has allocated ₦99,928,541.63 for the reconstruction and renovation of the Nassarawa mini Palace, currently housing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this decision following the council’s 15th meeting, emphasizing the need to address the defective fence and surroundings of the palace.

This decision follows a recent eviction order issued by the state government, asserting its ownership of the property and plans for renovation. However, the State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, has delayed enforcement pending a court ruling scheduled for June 24, 2024. Heightened security measures have been implemented around the palace in response to these developments.

In addition to the renovation of Nassarawa mini Palace, the Executive Council approved several other key projects aimed at improving healthcare and education in the state. These include ₦81,621,546.76 allocated for the establishment of a Sickle-Cell Care Unit at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. Another significant project is the construction of a Post-Midwifery Institute in Gezawa local government area, funded with ₦770,858,450.39, aimed at enhancing healthcare education.

Furthermore, ₦57,066,422.52 has been approved for the completion of construction at the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Madobi local government area, contributing to the state’s efforts in providing quality education for healthcare professionals.

The Executive Council also earmarked ₦447,621,640.79 for the payment of excess workload allowances to lecturers at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil (ADUST) and Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK). This decision follows a recent two-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to address issues such as non-reinstatement of the Governing Council, outstanding entitlements, and under-funding.

These investments underscore Kano State’s commitment to enhancing cultural heritage preservation, healthcare infrastructure, and educational opportunities. They represent a significant step towards sustainable development and improved quality of life for its residents.
