Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has made an urgent plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the reopening of Nigeria’s borders to alleviate the suffering caused by skyrocketing commodity prices. The appeal came during a meeting with the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at the Government House in Kano.
Governor Yusuf highlighted the dire conditions of hunger and starvation in the country, emphasizing the need for immediate action to make food more accessible. He commended the President’s food initiative and suggested that reopening borders for free importation of commodities could provide a swift solution to the prevailing hardships, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.

During discussions with the Customs Service, Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with their initiative to distribute food items to Kano residents. He urged the Customs Service to ensure that this assistance reaches those most affected and pledged unwavering support for initiatives benefiting Kano and Nigeria as a whole.
The Comptroller General, Adeniyi, reiterated the Customs Service’s commitment to collaboration and understanding with the Kano community. He pledged to implement policies addressing food scarcity challenges and fostering engagement with stakeholders. Adeniyi also announced comprehensive arrangements to distribute essential food items in Kano, addressing the current hardships faced by its residents.
