Kano Mass Wedding: Kwankwaso Advises Couples Not to Check Husbands' Phones

In a recent heartwarming gathering, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the National leader of the NNPP, offered some sage advice to the 1,800 couples who participated in the mass wedding scheme in Kano. Speaking at a reception organized by the State Government at the Open Theatre in Kano Government House, Kwankwaso gave a piece of advice that revolved around the importance of not checking one’s husband’s phone as a means to maintain a harmonious and lasting marriage.

The seasoned politician and former governor of Kano State highlighted the detrimental consequences that prying into a spouse’s phone can have on marital relationships, emphasizing that it is one of the primary causes of marriage breakdowns in today’s society. He urged the newlyweds to abstain from engaging in such activities and emphasized the need for couples to avoid actions that could potentially lead to conflicts within their marriages.

“You have been advised by all and sundry. I believe you have been advised a thousand times. Ulamas, parents, relatives, and even business people have advised you on how to live peacefully with one another. But, I have one single advice for you; that is checking spouses’ phones. Don’t peep into your husband’s phones, as that is the major cause of marriage breakups these days,” he said.

The event also provided an opportunity for Senator Kwankwaso to express his admiration for Governor Abba Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to the mass wedding initiative. He commended the administration for allocating over N700 million to sponsor more than 600 students to universities outside the country, highlighting a government dedicated to both societal welfare and educational development.

“We have made the right choice by electing Governor Abba Yusuf as our governor. He is a good leader who has continued our legacies. One of these legacies is this mass wedding. Apart from this, he is delivering mass-oriented projects. We call on the good people of Kano state to support his administration,” Kwankwaso remarked.

In his address, Governor Abba Yusuf revealed that the beneficiaries of the mass wedding were carefully selected from all 44 local government areas and the 484 wards of the state. Each local government area saw at least 30 couples being chosen to participate in this heartwarming initiative.

The state government took complete responsibility for the weddings, covering expenses such as dowry, furniture, wedding food supplies, and even offering a N20,000 grant to the brides for launching small-scale businesses within the comfort of their matrimonial homes. Governor Abba Yusuf encouraged the couples to lead peaceful lives in accordance with Islamic teachings.

The Commander General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, reported that, in total, 1,800 couples were part of the mass wedding event. However, he mentioned that the weddings of 264 couples had been postponed as they tested positive for certain ailments and were undergoing medical treatment. After their recovery, a new date will be set for their weddings.

The Islamic cleric emphasized the transparent and due process followed in the wedding scheme, commending the state government for its benevolent gesture. He offered prayers for the newlyweds, wishing them enduring marital happiness while also advising them to fear God in their interactions with one another.

The mass wedding event in Kano is not just a celebration of love but a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting harmonious family life and societal well-being.
