Kano State, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has announced the resumption of postgraduate foreign and local scholarships for indigenes who have achieved first-class honours degrees or equivalent qualifications. This initiative, approved by His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, aims to empower and support the academic aspirations of talented individuals, enabling them to pursue advanced studies and become future leaders in their respective fields.
The last postgraduate scholarship program was offered in 2015 under the administration of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. It sponsored the third batch of 503 first-class graduates to 14 different countries. However, the program was halted for eight years, leaving aspiring postgraduate students without the opportunity to further their education abroad. With the recent approval, the Kano State Government demonstrates its commitment to fostering educational development and promoting excellence among its citizens.
To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must fulfill certain criteria. Firstly, they must be indigenes of Kano State, ensuring that the benefits of the program remain within the local community. Secondly, they should have obtained a first-class honour degree or its equivalent from a reputable university or institution, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence. Lastly, applicants must be medically fit to travel and study, ensuring their well-being during their educational journey.
Interested candidates can obtain the relevant application forms for free from the official Kano State Government website at www.kanostate.gov.ng/scholarship_application. These forms must be completed accurately and submitted along with copies of necessary credentials, including the indigene certificate, medical certificate, birth certificate, primary school certificate, WASC/GCE/SSCE certificate, and degree certificate. The submission should be made within two weeks of the advertisement to the secretariat of the screening committee located at the Old Conference Room, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Cabinet Office, 1 Wudil Road, Kano.

By resuming the postgraduate foreign and local scholarship program, Kano State demonstrates its commitment to investing in the education and future of its citizens. The program not only facilitates the pursuit of higher education but also acts as a catalyst for socioeconomic development within the state. It empowers talented individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute significantly to their communities, both locally and globally.
The reintroduction of the scholarship program aligns with the government’s vision to build a knowledge-based society and nurture a generation of highly skilled professionals. Through this initiative, Kano State aims to produce leaders in various fields who will drive innovation, foster growth, and bring positive change to the state and the nation as a whole.
As Kano State renews its commitment to academic excellence and empowers its citizens, the postgraduate scholarship program offers a beacon of hope for talented graduates with first-class honours. It paves the way for a brighter future, enabling them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
