The Kebbi State Government has organized a mass wedding for 300 couples, providing financial and material support to help them start their new lives.
The ceremony took place at the Emir’s Palace in Birnin Kebbi and was coordinated by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside the Emir of Gwandu. This marks the second mass wedding initiative under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration.
Each couple, drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state, received ₦180,000 as dowry. The state government also ensured that all couples underwent medical screenings, while the grooms were assessed to confirm they had a trade and adequate shelter for their wives.
To support the newlyweds, the government provided farming equipment such as water pumping machines and cash donations to help them establish their businesses.
Governor Nasir Idris emphasized his commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit the masses, describing the mass wedding as an important step toward social stability and reducing immorality.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Suleman Argungu, highlighted the success of previous mass weddings, noting that only three couples separated while over 100 births were recorded.
Religious leaders praised the initiative, stressing its role in strengthening family values and reducing societal vices.
One of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Aliyu, a visually impaired man, expressed gratitude, stating that his disability had made it difficult for him to afford a wedding on his own.
This mass wedding initiative reflects the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to social welfare, economic empowerment, and family support.
