Governor Nasir Idris takes action after residents suffer despite monthly payments to electricity company.
The Kebbi State Government has set up a special committee to investigate and resolve the ongoing power crisis in Birnin Kebbi and other parts of the state. Governor Nasir Idris announced the move following widespread complaints over poor electricity supply despite huge monthly payments to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO).
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Kebbi elders, Governor Idris expressed frustration that the state government pays ₦150 million monthly to KAEDCO, while he personally contributes an additional ₦50 million yet power supply remains unreliable.
“We even bought 75 transformers and other equipment based on KAEDCO’s advice, but there’s still no improvement,” the governor said. “The problem is clearly from KAEDCO, not our government.”
To tackle the issue, the governor appointed a committee led by the Deputy Governor to investigate KAEDCO’s operations and recommend lasting solutions.
Residents of Birnin Kebbi have endured months of prolonged blackouts, affecting businesses and daily life. The new committee is expected to engage with KAEDCO and find ways to restore stable electricity supply across the state.
