Kebbi Government Sacks District Head, Suspends Another Over Misconduct

In a recent development, the Kebbi State Government has taken firm action by terminating the appointment of the District Head of Sauwa, Muhammad-Sauwa, and imposing a six-month suspension on the District Head of Guluma, Muhammad Bashir-Guluma.

Investigation Process:
On January 31, 2024, a committee of inquiry was established to investigate allegations presented by the Arugungu Local Government council. The committee’s swift action led to findings of guilt for both district heads, with specific charges of consistent acts of insubordination against the District Head of Sauwa and a milder form of insubordination against the District Head of Guluma.

Penalties Imposed:
In accordance with Public Services Rule 030301(0), the termination and suspension took effect from February 29, 2024. The District Head of Sauwa faced termination due to consistent acts of insubordination. Meanwhile, the District Head of Guluma received a lesser penalty with a six-month suspension and a salary hold for mild insubordination.

Chairman’s Statement:
Mansir Shehu, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, emphasized that the decisive actions were based on the committee’s investigative report, aligning with the government’s commitment to upholding public service rules.

The Kebbi State Government’s move underscores its dedication to maintaining discipline and accountability within the local administration. These actions serve as a stern reminder that misconduct will not be tolerated, ensuring a transparent and responsible governance system.
