Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Appeals to Chief of Defence Staff for Support
The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has raised concerns over the recent incursion of a new Islamic sect, identified as Lakurawa, into the state. Following the deadly attack in Mera town, Augie Local Government Area, which left 15 people dead, the governor dispatched a high-level delegation to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, to seek immediate military intervention.
Governor Idris, expressing his condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Augie, reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2024, when the sect launched a violent attack on a local community near Mera. In response, a delegation led by the former Kebbi State Governor and current Minister of Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, visited the CDS. The delegation included Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, APC National Organising Secretary Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, and former Commissioner of Justice Barrister Nasiru Junju.
During the meeting, Senator Bagudu emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to address the security threat not only in Kebbi State but also in other parts of the country. He expressed gratitude to the military and other security agencies for their ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
Responding, General Musa assured the delegation of the military’s readiness to intervene swiftly, promising to bring the perpetrators to justice. He further pledged to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety of Kebbi State residents.
The visit underscores the state government’s determination to address the escalating security challenges and restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
