In a move aimed at enhancing local governance and acknowledging the contributions of elected officials, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has given the green light for the disbursement of a substantial N675 million furniture allowance. This allocation is destined for the 21 local government council chairmen who were elected to serve their communities.

The announcement, conveyed through a statement by Chief Press Secretary Alhaji Ahmed Idris, signifies a significant investment in the development of local infrastructure and administration. According to Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, this allowance approval encompasses the period from 2022 to 2024.

This financial support has garnered praise from various quarters, particularly as it underlines Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to fostering positive change and progress. Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria and also the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, extended his gratitude on behalf of his fellow council chairmen. He hailed the overdue allowance as a demonstration of exemplary leadership, marking a significant step toward the betterment of local governance.

The funds are not only earmarked for the council chairmen but also encompass allowances for council members and secretaries, indicating a holistic approach to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of local government structures.
